A survey was conducted about obese kids and their parents. It was found that most parents whose kids are obese don't see them in that way. That is worrisome because obese children run the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol problems and other ailments more commonly found in adults. And overweight children are likely to grow up to be overweight adults.
Many parents think that their children will out of obesity as they grow or something will change in older age.Among parents with an obese, or extremely overweight, child ages 6 to 11, 43 percent said their child was "about the right weight," 37 percent responded "slightly overweight," and 13 percent said "very overweight." Others said "slightly underweight The Michigan researchers said that, too, suggests parents underestimate their children's weight. For that cause they take lightly the living style and eating habit of children. This assumption aggravate the problem.
Experts said doctors need to help parents better understand the health risks of childhood obesity.

Viewing TV boost bloodpressure risk for obese children
Obese children who watch a lot of television are more likely to have high blood pressure than heavy children who don't spend as much time in front of the tube, the results of a new study shows.
According to the researchers the psychological stress and eating junk food infront of television may be responsible for rise in blood pressure.
Obese children who watched 2 to 4 hours of TV each day were 2.5 times more likely than their peers who watched less TV to have high blood pressure, researchers found, while kids who watched more than 4 hours daily had more than triple the risk of having high blood pressure.
To investigate this relationship, researchers evaluated 546 children between 4 and 17 years old who were seeking treatment for obesity. Forty-three percent had high blood pressure.
The blood pressure of children is not generally measured but when the child is obese the parents should be careful and should check up the blood pressure to monitor the health regularly.

Weight gain affects breast cancer survival
New research suggests that for every 11 pounds a woman gains after being diagnosed with breast cancer, the chances of it proving fatal go up 14 percent. Controlling the weight is a good idea but its importance increases when woman is diagonosed with breast cancer. Diet control and exercise play an important role after a breast cancer diagonsis.
The chance of survival is more when a patient look for diet control and exercise to avoid the gaining of weight. From 1998 to 2001, all survivors were mailed surveys asking for updated information on these factors and lifestyle habits like exercise and diet.
After an average of six years of followup since their diagnoses, 121 breast cancer deaths and 428 non-breast cancer deaths had occurred. For every 11 pounds of weight gain after diagnosis, the risk of death from breast cancer or other causes increased by 14 percent.
Previous research found that women who exercised after being diagnosed with breast cancer cut their chance of dying by as much as one-half, depending on how much exercise they did.
Readers should advise any woman diagonosed with breast cancer to remain concious about their weight.

Nanotechnology used to detect cancer
Nanotechnolgy has taken the place of big machines. A nano-scale tool that distinguishes soft cancerous cells from stiffer normal ones could save lives by making it easier to diagnose cancer.
Using atomic force microscopes, a team of US scientists showed for the first time that the surface of living cancer cells were more than 70 percent softer than their healthy counterparts.
This method was found successful in finding malignant cells in case of lung, breast and pancreatic cancers.
Currently, pathologists examine surgically-removed tissue by placing stained, thinly-sliced sections on a glass slide and looking at them under a microscope for signs of the disease.
Researchers should be able to diagnose cancerous cells perfectly using this method because sometimes normal cells seems to be malignant.
