New research suggests that for every 11 pounds a woman gains after being diagnosed with breast cancer, the chances of it proving fatal go up 14 percent. Controlling the weight is a good idea but its importance increases when woman is diagonosed with breast cancer. Diet control and exercise play an important role after a breast cancer diagonsis.
The chance of survival is more when a patient look for diet control and exercise to avoid the gaining of weight. From 1998 to 2001, all survivors were mailed surveys asking for updated information on these factors and lifestyle habits like exercise and diet.
After an average of six years of followup since their diagnoses, 121 breast cancer deaths and 428 non-breast cancer deaths had occurred. For every 11 pounds of weight gain after diagnosis, the risk of death from breast cancer or other causes increased by 14 percent.
Previous research found that women who exercised after being diagnosed with breast cancer cut their chance of dying by as much as one-half, depending on how much exercise they did.
Readers should advise any woman diagonosed with breast cancer to remain concious about their weight.

Hello my friend,
I concur. The studies I've read do say that once you survive breast cancer, your chance of recurrence is greater in obese women. There is such a link to obesity and cancer, that it's something everyone should be aware of. Kathleen, RN
Looks as if being overweight is our biggest mistake as it seems to lead to all the high risk diseases. A healthier diet and exercise has almost become a thing of the past. What will it take to get these people to understand that all that fat is what is making them sick? Thanks for the great info. Will be back to read more.
maybe the doctors are not so right... They give me not live in the piece. You are too heavy... No, I have not these grave diseases but I think they maybe exagerate sometimes.
I mentioned this your post when I wrote about the weight in my Diary.
