Hemorrhoids(piles) and its cure
A soft balloon-like swelling of the veins around the anus is the primary symptom of hemorrhoids. When they remain swollen it is called 'developed piles'. When developed piles appear outside the anus they are called 'external', and when they appear inside they are called 'internal'. If blood starts oozing out of developed piles, they are called 'bleeding piles'. But not all piles bleed. If, instead, they are painful, aching, burning or itching, they are called 'dry piles'. The follwing precautions can be taken
Avoid constipation by not postponing the urge to defecate;
Eat a balanced, high-fiber diet;
Drink plenty of water, fluids;
Exercise; and
Avoid excessive pressure and straining during defecation.

Chocolate improves blood vessel function:Study
A small clinical study conducted by a research group in US has found that eating dark chocolate improves the function of blood vessel.
"In this sample of healthy adults, dark chocolate ingestion over a short period of time was shown to significantly improve (blood vessel) function," said Dr. Valentine Yanchou Njike of Yale Prevention Research Center, a co-investigator of the study.
45 people who participated in the six week trail were given 8 ounces(227 grams) of cocoa without sugar, cocoa with sugar or a placebo each day. After daily consumption of cocoa or placebo a high frequency ultrasound equipment was used to measure flow mediated dilation(FMD), an artery's ability to relax and expand to accommodate increased blood flow present in the upper arm.
Of the 39 subjects who completed the trial, FMD improved significantly in both cocoa groups -- by 2.4 percent among those who had it without sugar and 1.5 percent among those who had it with sugar. It dropped 0.8 percent in the placebo group. This new finding has added to the mounting evidence of benefits of eating dark chocolates.
This clinical study does not advise people to eat more dark chocolate but calls for more extensive study before arriving in to any concrete conclusion.

Lower Your High Blood Pressure
An implanted electronic device that can lower high blood pressure in hyper tension patients who have failed in application of drugs. An implanted electronic device like pace maker can lower blood pressure to 20 points in hyper tension patients in whom most drug treatment has failed. Researchers said by applying electrical pulses to the carotid artery in the neck, the device triggers the body's baroreflex system, which causes the heart to pump slower, arteries to dilate and the kidneys to excrete more fluid. 20 point reduction is associated with 50 percent lower risk in heart attack and stroke. If the efficiency of the device will be tested positive it may be used by 2 million Americans those are unable to keep their blood pressure under control.
Elimination of use of drug to deal hypertension will be a great achievement. The new device was developed by physiologist Robert Kieval, who founded CVRx Inc. of Minneapolis in 2001 to commercialize it. The device, called the Rheos Baroreflex Hypertension Therapy System.
The surgical implant takes about three hours under a light anesthetic so that the surgeon can check the response of the body to placement at various sites along the artery, finding the one that provides the best response.
The battery in the device lasts for 18 to 24 months and not rechargeable.
Application of the device showed positive result in patients in America and UK who were taking drugs for blood pressure treatment Without any side effect. If the tests on patients become successful then it will be a good news for blood pressure patients who are testing several drugs for hypertension treatment.

Smokers Are Dead Weight at the Office
Two studies one in US ,other in Sweden has revealed that smokers are not as good workers as their counter parts. They take more leaves and sick leaves.
Recently two studies were conducted one in USA and other in Sweden to study the behaviour of employees. It has been found out that smokers perform poor than non smokers.They also take more leaves and sick leaves than non-smokers.
Recently current issue of journal Tobacco Control state that frequent tobacco users are more likely to quit before serving their full term and more likely to be discharged early from service due to bad behaviour or personality disorder.
“Cigarette smoking might simply be a ‘marker’ for other underlying factors, such as non-conformity and high risk-taking, that contribute to poorer performance in the military,” the researchers write.
Though smoking brings temporary relaxatation ,it brings veriety of disorders and diseases like cancer. It also affects the non-smokers in the name of passive smoking. Several Governments are taking steps to stop smoking in public places.
The results from the studies suggest that the companies should have policies to reduce smoking which helps in reducing number of sick leaves and increase in productivity.

Exercise must be tough for better result
minutes gentle exercise a day is enough to keep a minimum level of fitness.
Recently, researchers at Queen's University, Belfast, found walking for half an hour on just three days a week gave similar fitness and blood pressure benefits to walking for 30 minutes five times a week.
But this report is misleading according to some experts as it may encourage people to do less exercise.
Some people continue to believe that only vigorous intensity activity will improve health while others believe that the light activities of their daily lives are sufficient to promote health.Experts stress that adults need to top up their routine activities, such as casual walking and housework, with structured exercise.
A high level committe will fix a guide line for physical exercise next year in United States.
