Hemorrhoids (also known as piles) are one of the most common ailments of our society. The picture shown is of internal hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoids (piles) are veins around the anus that have become swollen. This usually happens as a result of constipation due to the defective functioning of the liver. When the liver is not working up to speed, it acts as a kind of bottle neck for the channels running into it, hence a build-up of pressure in the veins leading to it, eventually causing these veins around the anus to become swollen with the pressure. The cause of piles are 1- Lack of physical exercise 2- Sexual over indulgence. Straining on the toilet also often aggravates the condition. Symptoms are as follows.
A soft balloon-like swelling of the veins around the anus is the primary symptom of hemorrhoids. When they remain swollen it is called 'developed piles'. When developed piles appear outside the anus they are called 'external', and when they appear inside they are called 'internal'. If blood starts oozing out of developed piles, they are called 'bleeding piles'. But not all piles bleed. If, instead, they are painful, aching, burning or itching, they are called 'dry piles'. The follwing precautions can be taken
Avoid constipation by not postponing the urge to defecate;
Eat a balanced, high-fiber diet;
Drink plenty of water, fluids;
Exercise; and
Avoid excessive pressure and straining during defecation.
