Is Psychiatry Heriditary?

Once a couple asked  a health researcher that they are going to adopt a child whose parental mother had a mild mental illness, they asked whether they would proceed or not, expecting a bright future of the child.
The researcher answered "Generally the mental disorders are seen in later part of the age. The probability of a child to be mental in future being born to a mentally sick parent is very less"
According to researchers rather the future mental behaviors of the child depends on the surroundings or the environment in which he or she grows. Heredity plays a minimal role. The diathesis stress-model suggests that heredity alone is not responsible for present or future mental disorder
There is no certainty in anything, sometimes children born to a psychic parent remain healthy throughout  their life. We have to only take care and keep the child in a healthy conducive atmosphere. Even one of the three children of a healthy parent may be psychologically sick

Let Us Swim To Health

Swimming has an edge over walking or jogging because stresses on muscles and bones are reduced while the body is immersed in water. In this process more groups of muscles are involved.
During swimming, the flow of blood and oxygen is increased. It become possible for heart to pump blood through the coronary and other arteries. Swimming is the best exercise to reduce the weight. It has been estimated that a person weighing 100lb can burn up to 325 calories in an hour if he swims at the speed of 50 yards per minutes
Older people should consult the physician before taking to swimming. The people who are suffering for heart disease or are diabetic should be  careful taking on swimming. We should avoid crowded pool, for the sake of safety. We should not also swim alone. Our swim suits should be well otherwise it will restrict our blood flow.Regular swimming increases stamina, relieves tension, tones up the muscles of legs, arms, waist and induces sound sleep. Parents should know that very carefully allow our children to swim because it is a good exercise and halt many diseases.

Is Every Mole Is A Skin Cancer

Numerous cells constitute the human body..Continuous addition and alternation takes place in our cell structure. This alternation occurs in regular manner.. But when the change in the structure is radical and there is development of malignant cells, It is called as cancerous. But growth of skin or visual aspect of a mole is not always skin cancer.Proper laboratory examination of cells in the mole(biopsy) is necessary.

Few points are appended below to know a mole is cancer or not

1-Shape and size of the mole -
Most of the moles are even, and are either round or oval in shape. Since the edges are round we can bend one side to other half.. If the mole is not circular or oval shaped and also unsymmetrical then the cells inside the may be malignant. It require a proper medical examination. But always this condition does not appear. -

2-Growth of the mole-
Abnormal growth of mole become matter of concern to be cancerous cell...Most of the time mole does not change its size but if changes it is a matter of concern.

3- Mole in Children

It is most important to take to consideration the children with more than 100 moles from their birth. This is possible sign of malignant or cancerous cells.. In this case immediate doctor consultation is required. "congenital nevi," or "congenital nevi" or birth marks in children is not presumed as cancerous.

If a new mole emerge or an abonormal change in shape or size is noticed, doctors should be immediately consulted. One should not be moved by the media unless otherwise a full body checkup by the specialist. The peoples having moles exposed to out side should be cautious about direct ultraviolet ray from the sun

Parents ignore the obesity of kids

A survey was conducted about obese kids and their parents. It was found that most parents whose kids are obese don't see them in that way. That is worrisome because obese children run the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol problems and other ailments more commonly found in adults. And overweight children are likely to grow up to be overweight adults.

Many parents think that their children will out of obesity as they grow or something will change in older age.Among parents with an obese, or extremely overweight, child ages 6 to 11, 43 percent said their child was "about the right weight," 37 percent responded "slightly overweight," and 13 percent said "very overweight." Others said "slightly underweight The Michigan researchers said that, too, suggests parents underestimate their children's weight. For that cause they take lightly the living style and eating habit of children. This assumption aggravate the problem.

Experts said doctors need to help parents better understand the health risks of childhood obesity.

Viewing TV boost bloodpressure risk for obese children

Obese children who watch a lot of television are more likely to have high blood pressure than heavy children who don't spend as much time in front of the tube, the results of a new study shows.
According to the researchers the psychological stress and eating junk food infront of television may be responsible for rise in blood pressure.
Obese children who watched 2 to 4 hours of TV each day were 2.5 times more likely than their peers who watched less TV to have high blood pressure, researchers found, while kids who watched more than 4 hours daily had more than triple the risk of having high blood pressure.
To investigate this relationship, researchers evaluated 546 children between 4 and 17 years old who were seeking treatment for obesity. Forty-three percent had high blood pressure.
The blood pressure of children is not generally measured but when the child is obese the parents should be careful and should check up the blood pressure to monitor the health regularly.

Weight gain affects breast cancer survival

New research suggests that for every 11 pounds a woman gains after being diagnosed with breast cancer, the chances of it proving fatal go up 14 percent. Controlling the weight is a good idea but its importance increases when woman is diagonosed with breast cancer. Diet control and exercise play an important role after a breast cancer diagonsis.

The chance of survival is more when a patient look for diet control and exercise to avoid the gaining of weight. From 1998 to 2001, all survivors were mailed surveys asking for updated information on these factors and lifestyle habits like exercise and diet.

After an average of six years of followup since their diagnoses, 121 breast cancer deaths and 428 non-breast cancer deaths had occurred. For every 11 pounds of weight gain after diagnosis, the risk of death from breast cancer or other causes increased by 14 percent.
Previous research found that women who exercised after being diagnosed with breast cancer cut their chance of dying by as much as one-half, depending on how much exercise they did.

Readers should advise any woman diagonosed with breast cancer to remain concious about their weight.

Nanotechnology used to detect cancer

Nanotechnolgy has taken the place of big machines. A nano-scale tool that distinguishes soft cancerous cells from stiffer normal ones could save lives by making it easier to diagnose cancer.

Using atomic force microscopes, a team of US scientists showed for the first time that the surface of living cancer cells were more than 70 percent softer than their healthy counterparts.
This method was found successful in finding malignant cells in case of lung, breast and pancreatic cancers.

Currently, pathologists examine surgically-removed tissue by placing stained, thinly-sliced sections on a glass slide and looking at them under a microscope for signs of the disease.

Researchers should be able to diagnose cancerous cells perfectly using this method because sometimes normal cells seems to be malignant.

Natural protein heals the heart cell damage

Scientists have found out that natural protein can heal the tissues that are damaged in a heart attack. It was previously believed that Nerve growth factor{NGF} was previously was acting on nerve cells but later it was found out that it acts on muscle cell of heart.

A Bristol Heart Institute team tested NGF in rats and this had promising results, Cell Death and Differentiation journal reports.
They are hopeful that this result will be successful in case of human. Heart attacks happen when one of the coronary arteries carrying oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle is blocked. If the blood supply is cut off, a part of the heart muscle dies. And this can lead to complications such as heart failure.
The new study in rats has put light on new way of tackling effect after heart attack.

Dr Costanza Emanueli and her colleagues found that injecting the gene for NGF into the hearts of rats having a heart attack stopped heart cells dying off.

Dr Emanueli said NGF may be a novel way of protecting the heart from further damage following a heart attack.
This is a good news for patients with heart disease.

Breast feeding leads to better IQ:Study

Scientists have identified a gene which leads children to have higher IQs if they are breastfed, according to a study. In this study scientists confirmed that intellectual development is influenced by both environmental and genetic factors.
Researchers examined more than 3,000 breast-fed infants in Britain and New Zealand and found that the child's IQ was an average of 6.8 points higher if the child had a particular version of a gene called FADS2.
Ninety percent of the children had at least one copy of version of the gene which yielded higher IQ if they were breast-fed. The IQ scores of the other 10 percent were not influenced by breastfeeding, according to the study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The gene was studied because it produces an enzyme found in breast milk which has been associated with higher IQ. The enzyme helps convert dietary fatty acids into the polyunsaturated fatty acids that have been shown to accumulate in the human brain during the first months after birth.
Now-a -days mothers are not breast feeding their babies in fear of loss of figure, but it should not be. We cant change the nature.

Disability may be an outcome of obesity

Obesity is the most common problem in USA. Researchers found that obesity is bringing problems of disability as well as chronic kidney problem.
"Obesity is more hazardous to the health of the elderly than we previously suspected," said Dawn Alley of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, whose study appears in the Journal of the American Medical Association. "For an older person, suffering from obesity means they are much less likely to be able to walk to the front door or pick up a bag of groceries," she said.
Another study found that chronic kidney diseases are on rise among the aged population due to obesity. Chronic kidney disease patients who are also obese are much more likely than normal-weight patients to have a condition called hyperparathyroidism, which raises their risk of heart problems and death, according to US researchers.
Obesity is now a challenge to the society. We should be careful from the childhood.

Onion is good for heart

It is well known fact that fruits, redwine etc reduces the risk of heart disease but now researchers have found that onions also contribute to lessen the heart disease risk.

Research shows that compounds called flavonoid reduces the preliminary risk of heart disease. We should eat foods that are rich in flavonoid compound. Onion is one among them.

An Institute of Food Research team focused on one of the compounds, quercetin, which is found in tea, onions, apples and red wine. Those foods were shown to help prevent the chronic inflammation which can lead to thickening of the arteries.
The research found that, in the case of one inflammatory process, a lower dose of the compounds - achievable by eating 100g to 200g of onions - actually had a bigger impact.
